Prada Bag and Purple Hair
Another modesty outfit, mixing patterns while maintaining a general color scheme. Here I am at my grandmother's house, having recently returned from a Goodwill modesty shopping spree. I found this 'vintage' Prada knapsack for only $7 or $8, in excellent condition. I found another one online for a comprable price, but mine has a gold lining inside (instead of silver) and the straps on the other one were fifty shades of messed up.
cream and navy striped shirt : Goodwill
yellow and green flower skirt : Valley Thrift
charcoal thigh highs with blue and green argyle : Targét, perhaps?
aqua-green scarf with silver threading : some little store in Israel
Also, you may note my recently dyed purple hair. These pictures are actually from almost a year ago, so I feel perfectly fine saying that I once again have awful bangs!

Blimey!
Another Eurotrash-anti outfit! And to think, one of these items actually is from England!
black and red pinstriped blazer with red scalloped trim : Goodwill
yellow pleated skirt : Goodwill
green tie-dye cami : hand-me-down from Ima
floral blue silk scarf : gift from a friend, souvenir from her trip to England
gold flower necklace : hand-me-down from Ima's mum
cuffed jeans : some thrift store
The things you find at Goodwill! This is the second of three amazing blazers that I found there, all on the same trip! Three fantastic, professional jackets for UNDER $20. Amazing. I mean really. Just look at it.

Azul
So many layers of blue! I just love it! And I really don't like blue very much!

white tee : hand-me-down from Ima
blue "denim" dress with velvet flowers : hand-me-down from Ima
blue denim shorts : hand-me-down from a friend
blue/green leopard print tights : Targét
gray/green/blue/white thigh highs : Targét
(Who went to Target recently?? haha)
Martin Luther King Jr. Day March
This lovely pink number from Goodwill, when paired with a few pearls, creates a very classic look. Add a modest skirt and mature scarf, and one is quite ready to face the brutal cold and raging winds.
light pink blazer : Goodwill
plum tank top : hand-me-down from Ima
hound's tooth scarf : hand-me-down from Ima
khaki mermaid skirt : hand-me-down from Ima
nude/gray flower tights : Targét
gray thigh highs : Targét
pearl necklace : Bat Mitzvah gift from a friend

Some things from the Winter...
In order...the pink scarf is a gift from my cousins on my stepmom's side. It has rainbow colors woven through it--very cute! The scarf looks kind of purple in this lighting...but I promise it really is pink. I actually rarely buy pink things for myself, so I am grateful to them for having bought it.
The pink floral dress and silk-and-bead mules are both from eBay (different sellers, of course). The dress is very comfy, although rather vertically challenged. This is easily rectified by pairing it with some leggings or jeans. It is, however, a classic example of inconsistent detailing. I bought it because it looked red in the picture...and so I expected a red dress. Not a hot pink dress.

Modesty
Let's discuss skirts...long skirts. There are two basic reasons for wearing a long skirt.
One, as exemplified by Orthodox Jewish and Islamic women (to name a couple), is modesty. The body is a sacred temple. For Orthodox Jews, a woman reaches an age where it is no longer acceptable for anybody but herself and her husband to see her hair. To address this, she wears some sort of head covering--hat, scarf, wig, etc. I cannot authoritatively speak for traditional Islamic women, but I imagine they have similar opinions about a woman's modesty. There are other theories behind modesty, some more basic than others. For some, a woman hides her skin because it is indecent not to. Some people, including those who operate outside of specific "groups" (such as the Amish, Puritans, and traditional religious denominations) choose to cover their skin for other reasons. The phrase "don't judge a book by it's cover" comes to mind here. Some of these people prefer to be assessed based on what they do, rather than how they look. Others choose modest clothing because of a discomfort about their body or image.
The other reason for wearing long skirts is basic human need. Just as two people should curl together nude for more warmth, two legs will be warmer if wrapped together in a skirt than they will if separated in pants. For added warmth, leggings may be worn under the skirt--but the skirt is essential to trap in the heat. Of course, this only works for long skirts. It is this second reason that I am wearing a long skirt today.

No thanks, I don't really want a bite of your eggplant...
Interesting and a little scary encounter at the grocery store today. It's amazing the kind of stuff that people try to get away with. I suppose it just goes to show...when a guy looks like a creepy sleazeball--he's probably a creepy sleazeball.
burgundy sweater : gift from last wintertime
brown corduroy vest : Goodwill
flower print sundress : Israel
ripped up blue jeans : years ago
brown suede boots : gift from my stepmum
gold flower necklace with rhinestones : hand-me-down from my grandmother

Fashion Bug
This is one of the $2 pieces from Wal-Mart. Apparently it is supposed to be a ladybug costume, but to me it looks more like a cute dress. :)
With a few key additions, it becomes a nice and toasty outfit for school!
ladybug dress : Wal-Mart
ripped blue jeans : from when I was a kid
white half jacket : gift from mum's cousin
fuzzy black scarf : I don't rightly remember
red and white striped legwarmers : one of my few pieces of spirit wear for my university
Lora Como heels : eBay (apparently they're Japanese vintage..?)
black crochet armwarmers : made by yours truly!

Bettie Page
I cut my bangs today. To me, this is a great tribute to my confidence in myself. I've always been too scared to put a pair of scissors to my hair.
Probably because my subconscious knew it would turn out to look like a famous pinup star's hair.
So a little tip about DIY hair cutting--always leave it longer than you actually want, so that if you make a mistake, you can fix it! Although this wasn't a mistake...it wasn't on purpose either. And other thing--it is very hard to find pictures of Bettie Page wearing clothes, so the top one isn't actually Bettie, but rather a Bettie Page look-a-like.
