A hint of Gatsby

It's party time!  Some lovely 20s tips :)  Makeup?  Bow lipstick!  Don't do the whole lip, or you won't get the pouty look.  Eyes should be smoky.  I decided against eyeliner on the upper lid, in favor of dark purple and blue eyeshadow.  Definitely do eyeliner on the bottom though!  Fill in that line between your eye and bottom eyelashes, from corner to corner.  I also do a little under the lashes on the outer edge.
As for the clothing itself--braless, ladies!  This lovely tunic dress of mine just happens to have an exceptionally low waist, so I've got that covered, especially when paired with my flowy kerchief skirt.  Since the weather today is 30s and rainy, I put a couple lace tops on underneath, which also made the cleavage less blatantly there.
Since, in the 20s, womens' hair tended to be short and simple, easy-to-do styles, while my hair is long, I came up with my own alternative.  Long, easy-to-do styles...aka messy bun!  It is exceptionally lovely if little tendrils of hair fall out :)
As for jewelery, big earrings set with rhinestones, pearls, etc. held closer to the ear (think clip-on) seemed to be popular.  Since I haven't really got any like that, I decided to just go with my awesome elephant earrings.  Necklaces should be rather like mardi-gras beads.

Variations

It's interesting, how the outfits I wear progress.  When people ask me, "how do you decide what to wear?" I simply tell them this--I choose one article of clothing, and start adding to it.  Seriously.  So like with this outfit--at the beginning, with the heels it was dressier.  Of course stilettos are not practical for traipsing around campus in, so I switched to boots and a sweet hat.

denim booty shorts : hand-me-down from a friend
gray patterned tights : Targét
brown suede boots : gift from my stepmom
navy blue peek-a-boo stilettos : Goodwill
rainbow and black O rings : 13th birthday present from a friend

Spring has sprung!

My two favorite compliments that I got in this outfit--I look like "that actress from Yes Man" (Zooey Deschanel--funny, because she and Patricia Arquette are my next look-a-like targets), and something along the lines of looking "exceptionally beautiful today".  It is always nice to hear ;)

Originally I had been going for a rather 40s look, but unfortunately any footwear that would match the decade would most certainly have not matched the (wet) weather.

I saw those boots at Goodwill once.  Same size and everything...

Look at my bird :)

I know, I know--this makes no sense whatsoever.  Africa-style skirt, Mediterranean scarf, western denim jacket, rain boots, wife beater, lace shrug, and leggings?!  I know.  And honestly--there is no explanation for it.  Just like, there's no explanation for why my car decided to die on the way in to school today.  This stuff just happens.  I'm sure the reasoning will reveal itself all in good time ;-)

African wrap skirt : Ellie's "blanket"--I snuck it from her dresser a while ago
teal scarf : Israel
short denim jacket : Goodwill
hand painted wife beater : made at camp last summer
brown lace shrug : some department store, a gift from my mom's aunt/cousin
purple tights leggings : some store...
blue and black rain boots : hand-me-down from Ima

Also, notice the ear cuff?  I made it this morning with purple and pink wire, and a turquoise bead.  :)

Bomber

Smile, and today will be a good day :)  So a little background to this one.  The blue dress under the corset (yes, it's a dress) is actually a maxi, but I liked a shorter look with the corset.  Long, it looked too long and slim, whereas short it kind of balances out the poofy sleeves.  As for the corset--the "boned" part is actually made of some sort of metal wiring, and so while perhaps it is better for my rib cage and all the things inside, it completely ruins the shape of the corset.  Unless I am standing up straight, it puckers and makes a little "fat roll".  This can kind of be seen in the second picture.  At least, it encourages me to sit up straight :)
