High Definition

Okay so I'm back here by the window--I love the lighting here.  Officially my new favorite blog photo spot.  And I promise this will be the last time I do the steampunk gloves/peace sign combo.  For a while.  Because, you know, it's Friday.  Maybe I'll do it again Monday.  Yeah.
I am also fond of how I am wearing almost no makeup, yet my eyes look so defined!  Seriously--just a little liquid eyeliner on the top lid (almost imperceptible), and a dash around the outer corner of the bottom eyelid, and you are set.  None of this crazy raccoon eye stuff.
And yes, my hair is the same as yesterday.  Okay, so some of us can't shower two days in a row.  Actually it's better for your hair to only wash it every couple of days anyway.

purple and blue plastic hair baubles : CVS
charcoal steam punk hand warmers : ...you guessed it

brown furry boots : gift from grandmother
orange headphones : okay kind of intentional this time...

Steam Punk

((I did warn you, hand warmer overdose)).  Actually today's outfit is intended to feature these lovely, Italian-made boots.  Es muy expensive!  I hear the buyer got them at a friendlier price, though.  They suction cup themselves to my calves, yet are like boats on my feet.  This somehow creates an effect that makes my legs look VERY skinny.  Actually this whole outfit makes me look tall and skinny.  Kind of like an alien.  Oh, and I had to include an obligatory Myspace pic--for some reason this outfit just made me feel like doing it.  Must..obey...clothes...

Okay.  Yeah, here it is.  The break down.

purple and blue plastic hair baubles : CVS or something
charcoal steampunk hand warmers : hand-me-down from Ima
black fishnet jacket : thrift store in New Mexico (and before you ask, YES it actually is warm)
black tank : hand-me-down from Ima
monochrome Thai fisherman pants : hand-me-down from Ima
black pinstriped tights : years ago...they're even ripped a little, which gives it a harder effect :D
black Italian boots of awkward proportions : hand-me-down from Ima

You're just so...kitschy.

I'm so stoked, I got a new piece of furniture (check out the next post).  Well, it's new to me.  Yet another hand-me-down from Ima...ha ha
Anyway, Ima purged her room again and I wound up with these awesome steampunk-y handwarmers.  I've kind of overdosed on them this week.
And yes, don't you just love the location today?  Technology and...something not very technological....

crochet (?) yarn headband : hand-me-down from Ima
black stretch 3/4 sleeve top : years ago, bought for funeral attendance
black and gold hounds tooth scarf : hand-me-down from Ima
charcoal steampunk handwarmers : hand-me-down from Ima

black and brown geometric tights : gift from stepmom

Little Red

Today's goal of simplicity wound up being ironically complex.  Sure, it's a basic ensemble--solid colors, uncluttered pieces.  What's so crazy about that?  Well those lovely green leggings I have there are actually the bottom of a yoga body-suit thing.  It's basically like a one-piece bathing suit with really long legs...

But anyway, the catch here is that in order to go to the bathroom, I had to take off the jacket, the belt, and slide the straps of the dress and the yoga leotard down.  That's really quite a bit of work for a couple seconds on the throne!

red knit sweater : hand-me-down from Ima, one of my select few A&E pieces
black slip : W*****t
forest green yoga leotard : hand-me-down from Ima
tan 'leather' gogo boots : hand-me-down from my friend (years ago...)
orange headphones : unintentional

If we were a braid, who would be our third strand?

The bird necklace here is on extended loan from my sister Ellie.  Oops.  The braids took about 20 minutes to do this morning, with wet hair.  I just kinda grabbed and braided, in a sloppy way.  Also, for these pictures I changed the hairstyle about three or four times..haha : )

brown corduroy jacket : hand-me-down from sister
metal and stone bird bell necklace : loan from other sister
short sleeved hunter green bolero/jacket-thing : hand-me-down from first sister
cream lace cami : (a favorite, it seems) W*****t
sparrow tunic : hand-me-down from Ima
ripped blue jeans : years and years and years and years and years..
20s flapper-ish mary jane shoes : hand-me-down from Ima
buttons on jacket : randomly grabbed from a dish in my room to make me look like a cooler person than I actually am

Another one of those country things..

Bandana + cowboy boots = ace.
Yeah so I have two pairs of cowboy boots--both hand-me-downs, and both a size or two too big.  The right boot on this pair actually hurts around the ankle area, I guess because my ankle bone hits at the wrong spot or something.  Otherwise, very nice boots.

I actually really like this outfit...the socks are sooo thick and warm.  If I stretched them out all the way, they would at least reach the bottom of my skirt.  Also, they are quite hard to get on...

blue tie-dye bandana : hand-me-down from Dad, I think..
gray Swell Season band tee : Swell Season concert I went to a couple years ago
dolphin hippie dress : hand-me-down from Ima (the dolphin is on the butt, not visible here)
deep blue leggings : hand-me-down from Ima
thick thigh high gray stockings : hand-me-down from Ima
tan cowboy boots : hand-me-down from Ima

Lots of hand-me-downs, as usual!  <3 recycling!

A Most Un-Valentine-y Outfit

New socks.  These actually match my eyes quite well.  :D

bloused army green button-up hoodie : Targét years ago
"it's better in brazil" brown cami : Old Navy, even more years ago
khaki cargo pants : Kohls or something--where do they sell Arizona?
cornflower blue over-the-knee socks : hand-me-down from Ima
screamin' green kicks : W*****t

Country Corporate

So perhaps it's a bit of a stretch, but it was fun for me...I began by throwing on this purple-blue and green tunic, which looked awkward, so I tucked it into my quaint country print skirt.  It was cold, so I decided to wear my light gray tights.  The back, where the tucked tunic didn't sit well under the skirt, looked lumpy so I decided a jacket would be a good idea--I went with my nicest business blazer.  At this point, I knew my neck needed something, and of course I needed shoes.  So what did I do?  I put on my bolo-like necklace and a(n oversized) pair of cowboy boots (not pictured, because the one picture where they're visible has someone else in the background--oops!)!  Yes, corporate country at it's finest.

charcoal gray blazer : Goodwill
bluey-purple blazer : hand-me-down from Ima
light gray tights : Targét
black and white country print skirt : Goodwill
black leather cowboy boots : hand-me-down from Ima
"bolo" necklace : a Claires mall purchase--it is actually the letter "i", for my name

Another color-combination outfit--turquoise, cream, coral, black and red.
Actually, quite possibly the most exciting part of this for me was how I made it more modest.  As you can see, the gray cami does not come up very high.  It also has one of those built in bras, which are sometimes nice, and sometimes a pain in the butt.  For this outfit I actually wore my turquoise sports bra with the previously pictured cream lace cami over it, which filled in some of the "extra space" between the top of the gray and my neck.  I've found that sports bras, when disguised correctly, are basically just the important half of a tank top.

As for my hair, I put it in a ponytail and flipped through.  See below:

After this, I flipped it back up against my head and secured it with bobby pins, so it looked rather like a bun.  Then I covered the pins (and the indent that resulted from them) with my turquoise hair flower.  Super cute :3

turquoise blue sports bra : some place like W*****t
cream lace cami : W*****t
gray cami with coral lace trim : Plato's Closet
black and red pinstripe blazer with scalloped trim : Goodwill
