My new blue dress

Apparently I'm in to 50s things right now.  That's cool.

blue dress with white polka dots : Goodwill
light denim cutoff shorts : from jeans handed-down from a friend
tie dye leggings : cut from Hot Topic tights
pearl necklace : Bat Mitzvah gift from a friend
bee ring : Claire's
elephant right : brought back from Europe by a friend
jewel encrusted ring : hand-me-down from Ima
turquoise bracelet : hand-me-down from Ima
ripped out jeans : years ago, saved from the trash multiple times

During my weekend in Columbus this summer, I stopped at a salon and had my hair cut (for free!!).  The woman who cut my hair did some fantastic things with it--and now I can get a very cute-yet-not-intimidating curl out of it by simply using a round brush on my wet hair, twisting it around, and gently pulling down to get it out.  It dries holding a very nice ringlet.

A Little Bit Rockabilly

A quick and simple look with a lot of flair.  The bottom two pictures detail the POP a little bit of fine eyeliner can give a girl.  ; )

I *heart* U!!!

Today I was disappointed to hear that the exam I had been preparing to take this morning--was postponed to tomorrow.  All that hard work...

So to cheer myself up, I decided to bust out a few things I'd been waiting for the perfect chance to wear.  Namely, the skirt, the tights, and the shoes.  Ever since I got them, I haven't had much of an opportunity to wear any of them. :/  So here goes!!

light green and white tie dye v-neck : tie dyed by yours truly at summer camp
black pleated skirt with crazy color : Goodwill
white tights with red hearts : Hot Topic
yellow faux-lace Vans : Plato's Closet
assorted jewelery & baubles : handmade by yours truly, hand-me-downs from Ima, Claire's, and your friendly neighborhood CVS

Oh, and I promise those aren't my knickers you see, those are just the booty shorts I always wear under skirts ;)

We don't take kindly to cider poachers...

A thoroughly country affair...

teal & spring green snap-up shirt : Goodwill
straight leg blue jeans : W*****t
dark cream cowgirl boots : Goodwill
southern drawl : Fantastic Mr. Fox

Another look at the bottle green dress robes...

Familiar?  This is a breakdown of the dress robes I designed for Harry.  I was unsure of whether or not to have the sleeves of the jacket rolled up--I liked the turquoise cuff poking out the end, but we decided to keep them down.

chartreuse corduroy blazer : Kohls or some other dept. store, years ago--gift from cousins
embossed vest : hand-me-down from a percussion friend
turquoise button-down shirt : Goodwill
lace cravat : cream satin scarf with a corner of a lace curtain tucked into it

A tip for how to get the cravat to work:
It is not entirely evident from the images above, but I "popped" my shirt collar before tying the satin scarf around my neck.  This adds to the authenticity of the look.

Harry Potter, Yule Ball Style!

Let me preface the following with a little backstory.  Some friends of mine and I decided to see the final Harry Potter movie in costume.  We got together one night, and dressed up in school clothes as Harry, Ron, and Hermione.  Halfway through the evening we decided it would be more fun to go in dress robes--and so the following ensued.  Joining our party are Nearly Headless Nick, Sirius Black, and Dobby the house elf.  Unfortunately you will have to take my word that Dobby is wearing very festive socks (Chanukah-themed, of course!) and some pretty sweet shoes.  Also--I promise "Ron's" dress robes were hideous, despite the lack of any photo documentation.

Another quick note--Harry, Ron, and Hermione's dress robes were designed after the BOOK, not the movie!  That is--I tried to make Harry's fit the "bottle green" theme, Ron's looks atrociously out of style (I will eventually take a picture of the ensemble, and post it!), and Hermione's be blue (not the awful pink thing they made her wear in the movie).  That is why I have not included pictures of Harry, Ron and Hermione from the movie.

Draco Malfoy & The Golden Trio

This is one of the many Harry Potter costumes I put together over the past week...I saw HP7 part 2 on opening night with my good friend Harry Potter.  Then I saw it again a week later, with even more characters... (the following photo is just from the pre-movie party we had a few days earlier--more will be in a later post)

Also, this is the lovely Harry Potter tie I painted!  It is my younger brother's old clip-on tie.

Cut & Color

In this outfit, I altered three items.  The first is the gray tunic--it was originally a romper that was a bit too small for me on the bottom.  I cut out the part that makes it shorts, and then cut a fringe into the edge, so that now it fits more like a shirt than a dress.  The second item in this outfit that I cut is the light denim shorts.  Originally, these were pants (AĆ©ropostale actually--a cast-off from a friend of mine), but they were a couple inches too short.  I liked the fit on my waist, so I decided to keep them and make them into shorts.  The other item I altered is the leggings--these were originally tights, but because they were so small the likelihood of me ripping them was very high.

gray pinstriped tunic : W*****t (it's Miley Cyrus brand..)
light blue denim cut-offs : hand-me-down from a friend's sister
tie dye leggings : Hot Topic
construction cone orange peek-a-boo toe flats : H&M in Chicago
the 2 gold rings : antique store in Columbus
colorful beaded hamsa ring : ethnic store in Columbus
shorter beaded necklace : handmade by yours truly, at the same time I made a similar necklace to wear to my mom's second wedding
