Harry Potter, Yule Ball Style!

Let me preface the following with a little backstory.  Some friends of mine and I decided to see the final Harry Potter movie in costume.  We got together one night, and dressed up in school clothes as Harry, Ron, and Hermione.  Halfway through the evening we decided it would be more fun to go in dress robes--and so the following ensued.  Joining our party are Nearly Headless Nick, Sirius Black, and Dobby the house elf.  Unfortunately you will have to take my word that Dobby is wearing very festive socks (Chanukah-themed, of course!) and some pretty sweet shoes.  Also--I promise "Ron's" dress robes were hideous, despite the lack of any photo documentation.

Another quick note--Harry, Ron, and Hermione's dress robes were designed after the BOOK, not the movie!  That is--I tried to make Harry's fit the "bottle green" theme, Ron's looks atrociously out of style (I will eventually take a picture of the ensemble, and post it!), and Hermione's be blue (not the awful pink thing they made her wear in the movie).  That is why I have not included pictures of Harry, Ron and Hermione from the movie.

Draco Malfoy & The Golden Trio

This is one of the many Harry Potter costumes I put together over the past week...I saw HP7 part 2 on opening night with my good friend Harry Potter.  Then I saw it again a week later, with even more characters... (the following photo is just from the pre-movie party we had a few days earlier--more will be in a later post)

Also, this is the lovely Harry Potter tie I painted!  It is my younger brother's old clip-on tie.

A hint of Gatsby

It's party time!  Some lovely 20s tips :)  Makeup?  Bow lipstick!  Don't do the whole lip, or you won't get the pouty look.  Eyes should be smoky.  I decided against eyeliner on the upper lid, in favor of dark purple and blue eyeshadow.  Definitely do eyeliner on the bottom though!  Fill in that line between your eye and bottom eyelashes, from corner to corner.  I also do a little under the lashes on the outer edge.
As for the clothing itself--braless, ladies!  This lovely tunic dress of mine just happens to have an exceptionally low waist, so I've got that covered, especially when paired with my flowy kerchief skirt.  Since the weather today is 30s and rainy, I put a couple lace tops on underneath, which also made the cleavage less blatantly there.
Since, in the 20s, womens' hair tended to be short and simple, easy-to-do styles, while my hair is long, I came up with my own alternative.  Long, easy-to-do styles...aka messy bun!  It is exceptionally lovely if little tendrils of hair fall out :)
As for jewelery, big earrings set with rhinestones, pearls, etc. held closer to the ear (think clip-on) seemed to be popular.  Since I haven't really got any like that, I decided to just go with my awesome elephant earrings.  Necklaces should be rather like mardi-gras beads.

A Wrinkle in Time

Finally, it's done!  My good friend Minuto does film reviews via video blogs (a.k.a. "vlogs"), and his latest work is a critique of Disney's made-for-TV movie adaptation of "A Wrinkle in Time", based on Madeline L'Engle's book of the same title.  He very kindly offered me the roles of Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which.  I, in turn, offered the use of my eclectically decorated room and extensive wardrobe.  (Unfortunately my acting skills are less serviceable).  In any event, here it is divided up into three segments on YouTube.

A Wrinkle in Time : Part 1

A Wrinkle in Time : Part 2

A Wrinkle in Time : Part 3

Also, here is a link to Minuto's blog...

So Much Minuto

Personally, I am a big fan of Minuto's work, so I highly recommend watching his other reviews as well.

Twins

Classically, this is my sister and I.  We are twins, separated by 13 years.  Just as much as I influence her, she influences me.  We can sit for hours in my room, just painting.  We can come up with the most creative ideas for outfits.
We are also very different.  Our ideas of what looks cool do not always match up.  I like to wear my hair up, while the most adornment she can tolerate is a headband--heaven forbid I try to give her a ponytail.  Our tastes in food certainly do not always match (although we both share a fondness for marzipan).
What I find so beautiful is the ebb and flow of our creativity, imagination, and personality.  I must be very lucky to have a sister that I can share so much with.  I hope that just as she mimics my outfits, I can imitate her deep understanding and care for others, and her limitless plethora of wisdom beyond her years.

My outfit...
