(New) Biking in Heels

So, my birthday presents from my parents last year were a bit delayed.  My dad promised to buy me a bike, my mom promised that we would get matching tattoos.  About 5 months later, on my 6 monthiversary with the boyfriend, I received my awesome vintage bike, and went for a ride with my family and said boyfriend.  I love this thing!  I spent a decent bit of the summer fixing the brakes, but otherwise this thing is just lovely.  Of course, it won't do for any mountain biking, but for fashion, is it the best accessory a girl could wish for.  I am most excited that it will work for any steampunk excursions =)  For instance, although they are not pictured I now have a gold-colored bell and a leather pouch in the back that is perfect for sunglasses, cell phones, keys, etc.

Now, for the outfit...

red-orange corduroy blazer : Goodwill
green tank top with lace and buttons : hand-me-down from Gabby
ripped jeans : childhood momento that my mother has confiscated once again
brown Sketchers heels : Goodwill or something (yes, they are Sketchers--how sporty!)
orange scarf : hand-me-down from my grandmother
multicolored bangles : collected as a child
orange tag necklace : handmade by yours truly, featuring the boyfriend's name and class ring
sunglasses and helmet : hand-me-down from Ima

On a relatively interesting side note, Ima and I went to meet briefly with the tattoo artist yesterday--which also happens to be my 11 monthiversary with Boyfriend.  If I were to call this irony, would that be like if I posted something as my friend on Facebook because she forgot to log out, and called it hacking?

Green Beverage Day

Unless I (and Wikipedia) am (are) quite mistaken, my school is credited with the invention of Green Beer Day in 1952.  So this is my tribute to GBD 2012.  Corset!  Yeah.  ;)

purple 3/4 sleeve top : Old Navy

black and brown foliage corset : eBay (it is VERY well made, and only cost me like $10)
taupe pants : hand-me-down from Ima
green 3/4 sleeve jacket : Targét
choker necklace with gear : handmade by yours truly!
silver clay compass necklace : gift from Ima

Office Space

red magen david necklace : hand-me-down from Ima
white button/drawstring blouse : hand-me-down from Ima
black stretch belt : Goodwill*
yellow pleated skirt : Goodwill
torn blue jeans : my childhood
red pumps : Goodwill

*Originally, the belt did not fit tightly enough around the smallest part of my waist, so I used scissors or a hole punch (very carefully!) to add another notch.  Perhaps my wood burning tool would have worked as well (although it may also have caught the belt on fire...)

My new blue dress

Apparently I'm in to 50s things right now.  That's cool.

blue dress with white polka dots : Goodwill
light denim cutoff shorts : from jeans handed-down from a friend
tie dye leggings : cut from Hot Topic tights
pearl necklace : Bat Mitzvah gift from a friend
bee ring : Claire's
elephant right : brought back from Europe by a friend
jewel encrusted ring : hand-me-down from Ima
turquoise bracelet : hand-me-down from Ima
ripped out jeans : years ago, saved from the trash multiple times

During my weekend in Columbus this summer, I stopped at a salon and had my hair cut (for free!!).  The woman who cut my hair did some fantastic things with it--and now I can get a very cute-yet-not-intimidating curl out of it by simply using a round brush on my wet hair, twisting it around, and gently pulling down to get it out.  It dries holding a very nice ringlet.

A Little Bit Rockabilly

A quick and simple look with a lot of flair.  The bottom two pictures detail the POP a little bit of fine eyeliner can give a girl.  ; )

Ahoy There, Matey!

Just look at those luscious locks!  I used a sailor girl pinup hair style for this outfit.  To do this, you basically take two sections of hair from the front, twist them, and pin them back.  Then you very loosely curl what is left, so it has some shape.

What a hipster..

So as part of my love to dress up, I've decided that I want to be able to represent as many "groups" as possible.

Okay that's bull.  I've been called a hipster so many times that I just had to.  This plaid gem came from W*****t, as did the jeans.  Oh, that's just awful.  I also popped the lenses out of some 3D glasses, so I've got the hipster specs covered too.  Nooo...

Study Session

I like this one too.  It also features something I made... ;)

white button down shirt : Goodwill
white wife beater : W*****t
cuffed blue jeans : years ago..
green and blue mini skirt : remastered by yours truly!

Yes, for the skirt...well the green bit is an old pair of pj pants.  The blue bit is a skirt that I cut into strips, and then pinned into ruffles, and then sewed.  I believe I discussed this in a much earlier post.  And my mom's dog ate some of the pins.

Zebra

One of my favorite things to do with clothes is to disguise sleepwear (a.k.a. lingerie) as everyday wear.  Take this zebra print blouse, for example.  Found it in the lingerie section.  Definitely a multi-purpose item.  Of course, this only works with pieces that aren't extremely risqué.  I especially like to do it with nighties :)

black crochet shrug : hand-me-down from Ima
tan and black/brown zebra blouse : W*****t (I regret it..)
blue jeans : W*****t (yes...I know...)
white woven bracelet : made by yours truly!
faux pearl necklaces : Goodwill

Lazy

This would be perfect for anyone going for that "just slept over at the boyfriend's--gimme my coffee" look.  Ew, I hate coffee.  Although to make it even better, add maybe a classy necklace or earrings (diamond or pearls).  That way it looks like you just came from some snazzy soirée or something ;-)

blue and white stripped button up shirt : Goodwill
gray Swell Seasons band tee : Swell Seasons concert I went to in Columbus with my Dad for my birthday
ripped blue jeans : older than you.  well probably not.
