Another look at the bottle green dress robes...

Familiar?  This is a breakdown of the dress robes I designed for Harry.  I was unsure of whether or not to have the sleeves of the jacket rolled up--I liked the turquoise cuff poking out the end, but we decided to keep them down.

chartreuse corduroy blazer : Kohls or some other dept. store, years ago--gift from cousins
embossed vest : hand-me-down from a percussion friend
turquoise button-down shirt : Goodwill
lace cravat : cream satin scarf with a corner of a lace curtain tucked into it

A tip for how to get the cravat to work:
It is not entirely evident from the images above, but I "popped" my shirt collar before tying the satin scarf around my neck.  This adds to the authenticity of the look.

Harry Potter, Yule Ball Style!

Let me preface the following with a little backstory.  Some friends of mine and I decided to see the final Harry Potter movie in costume.  We got together one night, and dressed up in school clothes as Harry, Ron, and Hermione.  Halfway through the evening we decided it would be more fun to go in dress robes--and so the following ensued.  Joining our party are Nearly Headless Nick, Sirius Black, and Dobby the house elf.  Unfortunately you will have to take my word that Dobby is wearing very festive socks (Chanukah-themed, of course!) and some pretty sweet shoes.  Also--I promise "Ron's" dress robes were hideous, despite the lack of any photo documentation.

Another quick note--Harry, Ron, and Hermione's dress robes were designed after the BOOK, not the movie!  That is--I tried to make Harry's fit the "bottle green" theme, Ron's looks atrociously out of style (I will eventually take a picture of the ensemble, and post it!), and Hermione's be blue (not the awful pink thing they made her wear in the movie).  That is why I have not included pictures of Harry, Ron and Hermione from the movie.

Draco Malfoy & The Golden Trio

This is one of the many Harry Potter costumes I put together over the past week...I saw HP7 part 2 on opening night with my good friend Harry Potter.  Then I saw it again a week later, with even more characters... (the following photo is just from the pre-movie party we had a few days earlier--more will be in a later post)

Also, this is the lovely Harry Potter tie I painted!  It is my younger brother's old clip-on tie.

Envy Adams

Okay so definitely not as awesome as my Ramona Flowers look-a-like, but fun nonetheless.

Ramona Flowers

Ah, the long awaited Ramona Flowers look-a-like.  My goggles came in the mail today (not from Amazon, unfortunately)--guess who I'm being for Purim!!  :D

Shirley Temple or Snow White?

I haven't done many look-a-like photos lately.  Instead, I have been making YouTube movies with my siblings (if you didn't know, then scroll down for links).  I have even started to get suggestions about which MOVIES to make--the latest being a Shirley Temple number, inspired by these curls.  And so I figure, I will ask.  What YouTube movie should I do next?  The ones I have done so far are "spoofs" of things that already exist.

I was also told that I look like Snow White.

red 3/4 sleeve henley :  pj top
gray tunic/dress : hand-me-down from Ima
mint green pinstripe skort : Goodwill
gray patterned tights : Targét
gray stockings : Targét
white bow headband : eBay costume
blue dolphin necklace : gift from a good friend
black rose bracelet : Claires *shudder* (it WAS going to be a Chanukah present for someone, but I never saw her...)

Sailor Moon Video

Today I made another video with Ellie and Jorge.  Instead of Dora the Explorer, we made Sailor Moon.  This is my outfit.

For the hair, I actually wound up using two wigs.  I used my long blonde one as well as the short (slightly lighter) blonde one, because the long one did not have bangs.  The short one was used to make buns (which did not last long), while the long one added a bit of length when I pulled it into ponytails.  Unfortunately neither wig was made to be styled into an updo, and so it is of course very cheap looking.

The sailor suit look is one of the costumes I bought on eBay, paired with a white tank top.  I tied a red bandana on the front for Sailor Moon's bow, and stole Ellie's red knee-his for Sailor Moon's boots.

Voilá!

Oh, and of course, THE VIDEO.

Audrey Hepburn

The three pictures of me show what my hair looked like when somebody told me I looked like Audrey Hepburn.  I suppose if I glam it up a bit...

I suspect that the key element was the pinned back bangs...and I have to say, I like the light look of a limited fringe.
